About Joseph Drouhin

Joseph Drouhin set up in Beaune in 1880 and the house is still run by his descendants, now the fourth generation working together across vineyards, cellar and export. The holdings reach from Chablis, where the estate farms under the Drouhin-Vaudon name, through the Côte de Nuits into the Côte de Beaune, taking in Musigny, Bonnes-Mares, Griotte-Chambertin, Grands Echézeaux, Corton-Charlemagne and the Beaune premier cru Clos des Mouches in both colours. Drouhin also makes Le Montrachet Marquis de Laguiche under a long standing arrangement with that family. The vineyards went organic in the 1990s and biodynamic practices followed.

Few houses stretch from Chablis to Chassagne with this much of it under their own plough. Our Burgundy Wines and Grand Cru Wines pages cover the neighboring estates, and Chardonnay follows the grape further afield.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Clos des Mouches?

A Beaune premier cru on the Pommard side of the hill, where Drouhin owns roughly fourteen hectares. It is bottled as both red and white, and the white is the more sought after of the two.

What is Montrachet Marquis de Laguiche?

The largest single holding in Le Montrachet, owned by the Laguiche family and farmed and bottled by Drouhin since 1947. The label carries both names.

Is Domaine Drouhin Oregon the same as Joseph Drouhin?

Same family, different estate. The Drouhins planted in Oregon's Dundee Hills in 1988 and run it as a separate winery. Bottles labelled Domaine Drouhin Oregon are Willamette Valley wines, not Burgundy.

How long do Joseph Drouhin wines age?

Grand crus generally want twelve to twenty years. Clos des Mouches in either colour drinks well from six to eight and holds for fifteen or more. The house style is restrained rather than heavy, so the wines can be underestimated young.
