About Château Gruaud Larose
Gruaud Larose was ranked a second growth in 1855 and is one of the largest classed growth estates in Saint-Julien, with around eighty hectares in a single block set back from the river. The vineyard was split between two branches of the family in 1812 and only reunited in 1935, which is why older bottles carry the Sarget and Faure names. Cabernet Sauvignon leads the blend, with an unusually generous share of Petit Verdot that adds spice and grip. The Merlaut family has owned it since 1997 and farms with a strong environmental programme. Sarget de Gruaud Larose is the second wine.
