Château Gruaud Larose is one of Saint-Julien's largest second growths, known for a deep, firmly structured style that rewards long cellaring. This 1.5-liter magnum of the 2005, from one of the finest Bordeaux vintages in recent memory, offers the slower, more graceful evolution that large formats provide. Jane Anson found raspberry and cassis with smoked vanilla bean, spice, fresh acidity and crushed mint, noting that this château always takes its time to open. The Wine Independent highlighted rosehip tea, lavender, crushed rock, redcurrant and black truffle. Harvest ran from late September into October, with 35% new oak. Decant for an hour; this magnum will drink well through the 2030s.
