Château Beauséjour (Duffau-Lagarrosse), a Premier Grand Cru Classé on the limestone slopes just west of the town of Saint-Émilion, produced one of the legendary Right Bank wines of the twentieth century in 1990. It holds perfect 100-point scores from both Jeb Dunnuck and Wine Advocate, plus 98 from Wine Spectator. Dunnuck, who has tasted it repeatedly in recent years, describes a still-youthful ruby wine with ripe red and black fruits, truffle, graphite, saddle leather and striking minerality, both full-bodied and "sensationally elegant." The warm, generous 1990 vintage delivered concentration without heaviness here. Mature yet still vibrant, it is a thrilling bottle to open now and should hold for another decade or more.
