Russell Bevan built Bevan Cellars into one of Napa's most sought-after small producers, known for opulent, richly fruited Cabernet. The Harbison Vineyard sits in Oakville right next to the Tench Vineyard, yet it yields a distinctly different wine: meatier, earthier and more savory. The 2017 shows blackcurrant, dark chocolate, toasted spice, tapenade and aniseed, with tar and earth notes adding depth. Jeb Dunnuck described it as full-bodied, big and beefy, with plenty of plushness, a stacked mid-palate and a huge finish, while Vinous noted ripeness pushed to the edge. A bold Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon for lovers of power, it is drinking well now and should hold for another decade or more.
