Bevan Cellars, the label Russell Bevan built into a Napa cult favorite, works with select vineyard sites to make opulent, small-production Cabernet Sauvignon, and the Houyi Vineyard bottling is among its most acclaimed. The 2019 earned 99 points from The Wine Independent, with strong praise from Vinous and Jeb Dunnuck as well. A fine, moderate Napa growing season produced blackcurrant, redcurrant and wild blueberry fruit layered with chocolate mint, exotic spice and a hint of smoked meat. The Wine Independent called it "full-bodied, concentrated, and flamboyant," with ripe, grainy tannins and real tension beneath the generous fruit. Approachable now with a decant, it should drink beautifully through the late 2030s.
