Boars' View is the Sonoma Coast project of Fred and Carol Schrader, best known for their cult Napa Valley Cabernets. The vineyard sits on wind-swept coastal ridges just inland from the Pacific, where cool marine air yields Pinot Noir of real intensity and energy. The 2017 Pinot Noir The Coast shows the more focused, savory style of the vintage, with black cherry, toasted bread, baking spice and forest floor over a medium- to full-bodied palate. Wine Spectator noted a mineral edge to its vibrant cherry, currant and plum fruit, backed by crunchy acidity and a toasty finish with hints of rosemary. Jeb Dunnuck praised its "rock-solid overall balance." Drinking nicely now, it should hold through the end of the decade.
