Bootlegger's Hill is the single-vineyard Pinot Noir from Cirq, Michael Browne's Russian River Valley project, and the 2015 was made primarily by Nico Cueva, then winemaker at Kosta Browne. The 2015 season brought a small, drought-affected crop in Sonoma, yielding concentrated wines. Jeb Dunnuck found it ripe, broad and expansive, with strawberry and cherry fruit, violets, forest floor, silky tannin and plenty of spice. Retasted a decade on, Vinous described a plush yet fresh wine moving from primary fruit toward savory layers of black olive, iron, game and bitter cherry, held together by vibrant acidity and grippy tannins. It is entering its prime now and should drink well for several more years.
