Tychson Hill is the home vineyard of Ann Colgin and Joe Wender, a sloped, north-facing parcel of only about six acres in St. Helena, largely planted in 1997 to heritage Cabernet Sauvignon clones. The 2019 vintage, an even, moderate year that many Napa growers rank among the decade's best, gave this wine remarkable energy. Wine Advocate awarded it a perfect 100 points, with Jeb Dunnuck and James Suckling each at 98. Bright black and red cherry, boysenberry and wild blueberry mingle with violets, dark chocolate, licorice and loam, unfolding on a full-bodied, velvety palate with layer upon layer of fruit. Approachable young, it should cellar beautifully for 25 years or more.
