Domaine Denis Bachelet is a tiny family estate in Gevrey-Chambertin whose old-vine Pinot Noirs are admired for purity and finesse rather than sheer power. The Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes comes from old village vines and is the domaine's signature wine. The 1999 vintage was one of the great Côte de Nuits years of its decade, a generous harvest of ripe, healthy fruit with excellent concentration. After more than twenty-five years, this wine should show red cherry and raspberry fruit giving way to forest floor, spice, dried roses and savory earth, with silky, resolved tannins. Drink now, ideally after a brief decant to let it open.
