Domaine Georges Lignier Clos de la Roche Grand Cru

Domaine Georges Lignier has long been a sleeping giant in Burgundy.

It has one of Côte de Nuits' greatest collections of vineyards, and Robert Parker once called its 1985 Clos St. Denis one of the three greatest Burgundies he’d ever tasted.

Thankfully, the estate began to wake up in 2008, when Georges’ nephew, Benoit Stehly, took over as winemaker.

By 2015, Steve Tanzer walked away saying the estate had produced the best wines he'd tasted from G. Lignier in decades.

And the wines have only gotten better since, reaching a crescendo with the domaine’s great 2022s, with the estate’s flagship Clos de la Roche awarded twin 96 ratings from Stuart Pigott and Christy Canterbury, MW.

Stuart Pigott: “96 rating. Rich yet extremely fresh and precise, this stunning Clos de la Roche is already exciting to drink thanks to the wonderful balance of fine tannins and generous red fruit character on the medium- to full-bodied palate. Long, silky finish in spite of the intense chalky character there.”

Christy Canterbury, MW: “96 rating. Elderberries, Fig Newtons and crushed sea salt gather on the nose. Luxuriously ripe fruit spans out on the weighty palate ....”
