Domaine Henri Gouges is the reference estate of Nuits-Saint-Georges, and Les Saint-Georges is the appellation's most famous premier cru, long considered worthy of grand cru status. The 2007 Burgundy vintage is often remembered for lighter, early-drinking reds, but this wine is a notable exception. John Gilman called it "simply brilliant" and "a great, great wine," finding red and black cherries, dark berries, espresso, bitter chocolate and graphite over a deep, pure, full-bodied palate with fine-grained tannins and zesty acidity. Burghound, Vinous and Wine Enthusiast also rated it well. Now in its prime at nearly two decades old, this classic Pinot Noir should continue to drink well for several more years.
