The Chave family has tended vines on the hill of Hermitage for more than five centuries, and Jean-Louis Chave's Hermitage Blanc, built mostly on Marsanne with some Roussanne, ranks among the Rhône's greatest white wines. The 2019 earned 98 points from Jeb Dunnuck, who called it "powerful, concentrated, and remarkably pure," with textbook quince, green almond, crushed rock, licorice and spice, and likened its rare mix of power and elegance to the 2018. Vinous, tasting the individual parcels, found floral, pear, citrus and mineral notes. Presented here in magnum, a format that ages slowly and gracefully. Lovely in its youth, it will be at its best after 2031 and should live for decades.
