Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage Rouge 2023 750ml

Domaine Jean-Louis Chave has made wine in the northern Rhône for more than five centuries, and its Hermitage Rouge, assembled from parcels across the hill such as Bessards, Péléat and L'Hermite, is a benchmark for Syrah. The 2023 earned 99 points from Wine Advocate, which described aromas of sweet dark berries, incense, violets, dark cherries and tapenade. Full-bodied, satiny and deep, it is built on ultra-refined tannins, with lively acidity giving tension and a long, perfumed finish. Wine Advocate called it "remarkably accessible in its youth," yet it clearly warrants extended cellaring. Drink from around 2030 and over the following two to three decades.
