Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Volnay Clos des Ducs 1er Cru 2012 1500ml

Clos des Ducs is the jewel of Domaine Marquis d'Angerville, a walled monopole rising behind the family's home at the top of Volnay village and widely regarded as one of the commune's finest premier crus. The 2012 vintage was small after hail and difficult flowering, but the quality of what survived is superb. This Pinot Noir shows dark cherry, raspberry and cranberry leaf with cool stony notes, a medium-bodied palate of very fine tannins and a peppery, persistent finish. Jancis Robinson called it "very glamorous and gorgeous." This magnum, a format ideal for slow and graceful aging, should drink well from now through 2035 and beyond.
