Thomas-Bassot is a historic Burgundy house based in Gevrey-Chambertin, and Charmes-Chambertin is one of the village's celebrated grand cru vineyards, lying just below the Route des Grands Crus. Charmes typically gives the most supple and perfumed of Gevrey's grand crus, combining red and black cherry fruit with spice and a silky texture. 2011 was an early-ripening, uneven year that produced fresh, aromatic, mid-weight Pinot Noir that has opened earlier than bigger vintages. Expect red cherry, raspberry, rose and sweet spice, with notes of earth and game now emerging as the wine matures. Drinking well today, it should continue to show nicely over the next five to eight years.
