Château d'Yquem, the only Sauternes ranked Premier Cru Supérieur in the 1855 classification, produces the world's most celebrated sweet wine, and 1990 capped a legendary trio of Sauternes vintages alongside 1988 and 1989. Wine Advocate scored it 98 points, noting that it opens with "unabashed opulence." Dried apricot, toffee, candied walnut, sandalwood and preserved mandarin peel lead to a palate that still carries abundant fruit yet finishes with a lively, almost dry precision. The Wine Independent highlighted honeyed walnuts, cigar box and candied orange peel. This rare 3-liter bottle has aged slowly and gracefully, and it will continue to drink superbly for decades.
