Giuseppe Rinaldi is one of Barolo's great traditionalist houses, aging its Nebbiolo in large old botti and releasing wines built for the long haul. For years its Brunate-Le Coste was bottled as a blend of two vineyards, Brunate in La Morra and Le Coste in the village of Barolo. In the warm 2000 vintage the wine came out imposing and massively structured, and Wine Advocate named it "one of the wines of the vintage," praising its marvelous richness and depth and calling it a magnificent Barolo in every way. This three-liter double magnum is a rare format that ages slowly, and it should drink beautifully over the next decade or more for a special gathering.
