Harlan Estate, founded by Bill Harlan in the western hills of Oakville, makes one of Napa Valley's benchmark Cabernet Sauvignon-based blends, and the 2007 is among its most celebrated vintages. It earned a perfect 100 points from Wine Advocate and 98 from Vinous. Wine Advocate described a dense plum-purple wine with barbecue smoke, blueberries, blackberries, cassis, licorice and hot rocks, calling it "a splendidly opulent, pure wine with a skyscraper-like texture" and noting a finish lasting nearly a minute. Its overwhelming richness and sweet tannins made it approachable early, yet it has the depth for a long life; the review predicted it would still be going strong at 25 to 30 years.
