Château Haut-Brion, the only first growth classified in 1855 from outside the Médoc, has been making wine in what is now Pessac-Léognan for more than 400 years. The 2015 ranks among its greatest modern vintages, earning perfect 100-point scores from Jeb Dunnuck and The Wine Independent, 99 from Decanter, and 98 from James Suckling, Vinous and Wine Spectator. A blend of 50% Merlot, 42% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Cabernet Franc, it shows blackcurrant, smoked tobacco, herbs, graphite and damp earth. Dunnuck called it "built like a skyscraper." Give it time; it should drink brilliantly for three to four decades.
