Kistler Vineyards, founded in 1978, made its name with Burgundian-style Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from Sonoma's top sites, including the Laguna Ridge Vineyard in the Russian River Valley. The 2020 vintage was shaped by the August lightning storm that sparked wildfires across California, and this Pinot Noir was picked a day later than planned, before smoke reached Sonoma vineyards. Wine Advocate awarded it 98 points, finding crushed cherries, blood orange, lilac and sage on a concentrated, silky palate with seamless acidity and a very long, layered finish, and summed it up with a simple "Wow!" Jeb Dunnuck, James Suckling and Wine Spectator also rated it highly. Enjoy now through the early 2030s.
