Kistler Vineyards has been a benchmark Sonoma producer since its founding in 1978, celebrated for Burgundian-style Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from cool-climate sites. Its Russian River Valley Pinot Noir comes from this fog-cooled appellation and is offered mostly to restaurants. Vinous called the 2022 "a heady, boisterous wine," with succulent black cherry and plum up front followed by hints of chocolate, lavender, dark spice and leather. A late-summer heat wave in 2022 pushed ripeness across California, and the result here is a forward, racy, generously fruited Pinot Noir with a joyous, exuberant personality.
