Kosta Browne helped define the plush, polished style of modern Sonoma Pinot Noir after Dan Kosta and Michael Browne launched the label in 1997, famously funded with restaurant tips. The 2014 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir comes from a warm, early drought-year harvest and was raised in 55% new French oak, a touch more than the 2013. Wine Advocate's Jeb Dunnuck found deep, earthy notes of bouquet garni, smoked earth, licorice and dark fruit on a full-bodied, generous palate with a big mid-section, and called it "a beautiful wine." Rich yet carrying cool-climate freshness, it is now fully mature and best enjoyed over the next few years.
