Founded in 1720, Maison Champy is the oldest wine house in Beaune and one of Burgundy's most storied négociants. Its village Chassagne-Montrachet is 100% Chardonnay from the southern end of the Côte de Beaune, a village famed for its white wines and home to part of the Montrachet grand cru. The 2013 vintage was challenging, with poor flowering and hail reducing yields and a late harvest, but the whites that resulted are fresh, precise and mineral. Expect lemon, white peach and hazelnut with a touch of toasted oak and a long, chalky finish. It is drinking at its peak now and should be enjoyed over the next few years.
