Few modern Bordeaux have earned the acclaim of Château Montrose's 2016. The Saint-Estèphe second growth, owned by the Bouygues family, received perfect 100-point scores from Jane Anson, Jeb Dunnuck and The Wine Independent, along with 99 from Wine Advocate and 98 from Decanter and James Suckling. Anson called it "one of the greatest Montrose of the new millennium." A drought summer with cool nights produced Médoc Cabernet of exceptional depth and freshness, and here that means cassis, plum, bilberry, licorice, espresso and slate on a powerful yet supple palate. Still youthful, it deserves another decade in the cellar and should age for 40 years or more.
