Morlet Chardonnay Coup de Coeur Sonoma Valley 2018 750ml

Luc Morlet, a native of Champagne, crafts his family's Napa and Sonoma wines with a distinctly Burgundian sensibility, and Coup de Coeur is the top Chardonnay in the range: a barrel selection made exclusively from the Old Wente clone. The 2018, from a long, cool and generous California growing season, earned a perfect 100 points from Wine Advocate, which described orange blossom, ripe pear, peach and lime leaf with oyster shell, struck flint and cashew, layered over a racy, silky palate with "amazing persistence." Vinous and James Suckling also rated it highly. Rich yet energetic, it is drinking beautifully now and should continue to develop complexity over the next decade.
