French-born winemaker Luc Morlet, who preceded his brother Nicolas as winemaker at Peter Michael, crafts Coeur de Vallée as his Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon flagship. In 2013 it came entirely from the Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard, and Vinous noted an unusually high share of Cabernet Franc, around 25%. Revisited in 2025, it earned 99 points from Decanter, which called it "a serious wine of exceptional high quality." Expect tobacco-laced redcurrant, blackberry and cassis with violets, cedar, leather and licorice, carried by creamy, firm tannins and remarkable freshness. Offered here in magnum, a format that ages slowly and gracefully, it is drinking well now and has many years ahead.
