Luc Morlet, a Champagne native from a winemaking family, founded Morlet Family Vineyards with his wife Jodie to craft Burgundian-inspired wines from Napa and Sonoma. Joli Coeur, the estate's top Pinot Noir, comes from the remote Fort Ross-Seaview area on the far western Sonoma Coast. The 2014 pairs juicy dark red cherry and raspberry fruit with lifted aromatics and a dense, pliant texture; Vinous described it as "exceptionally polished." Wine Advocate noted it has the darkest fruit, the most minerality and the firmest structure of Morlet's Pinots. The warm, early 2014 season brought generous ripeness. In magnum it has aged slowly and should drink beautifully for several more years.
