The 2008 Opus One comes from a low-yield vintage: a September heat spike and the final year of a deficit-irrigation program cut the crop to roughly half its normal size. The result is a concentrated, firmly built wine with bright cassis, Morello cherry and blackcurrant preserves, lifted by notes of Indian spice and potpourri. Decanter's Jane Anson noted that "a full ten years in bottle is not always enough to fully soften Opus," and this vintage rewards patience. Now approaching two decades of age, it's an excellent choice for collectors who prefer a structured, classically proportioned Napa blend. Decant for an hour before serving.
