Opus One Napa Valley 2009 750ml

From a cooler Napa vintage, the 2009 Opus One leans toward savory complexity: dark fruit, chocolate and licorice layered with black olive and tobacco. Cabernet Franc plays a bigger role than usual at 9% of the blend, adding lift and perfume. Vinous's Antonio Galloni described it as combining "the silkiness of the 2007 with the power and darkness of the 2008." Now more than 15 years from harvest, the baby fat has dropped away and the tannins have softened, leaving a polished, savory Opus that is squarely in its drinking window and should hold well into the 2030s.
