Peju has been a family-owned Rutherford landmark since the early 1980s, when Tony and Herta Peju bought their estate along Highway 29, and Merlot has long been an important part of its Napa Valley lineup. The 2019 vintage was a classic, even growing season in Napa, producing balanced, polished reds with ripe fruit and fresh acidity. This Napa Valley Merlot offers plush black cherry, plum and blackberry fruit with notes of mocha, vanilla, dried herbs and sweet spice, supported by soft, rounded tannins and a smooth finish. Approachable now, it should drink well through the end of the decade.
