Peter Michael's Au Paradis is a Cabernet Sauvignon-based red from the family's Oakville vineyard, in an appellation with a long pedigree for world-class Napa Cabernet. The 2014 stands out, earning 99 points from James Suckling and 98 from Decanter. A warm spring brought early budbreak, and steady warmth without heat spikes produced thick-skinned grapes and firm tannic structure. Suckling found iron, clay, currant and copper pennies giving way to flowers, iodine and oyster shells, with juicy blackcurrant, dark chocolate and orange peel on a full body. Roughly three-quarters Cabernet Sauvignon with Cabernet Franc, it is drinking well now and should age gracefully through 2040.
