Sir Peter Michael's estate on the volcanic slopes of Knights Valley in Sonoma County produces some of California's most acclaimed Chardonnays, and Mon Plaisir is one of its signature bottlings. The 2012 vintage was a generous, even growing season that followed two cool years, yielding a rich wine that still keeps its balance. James Suckling praised its "incredibly Californian intensity but also finesse," with white peach, light honey and minerals and a salty, oyster-shell finish. Wine Advocate noted honeysuckle, lychee, orange marmalade and white peach with stunning purity and a profound finish, while Wine Spectator highlighted its exotic, toasty richness. Now fully mature, it is best enjoyed over the next few years.
