Pétrus, the legendary Pomerol estate whose clay-rich plateau is planted almost entirely to Merlot, produced one of the most successful wines of the challenging 1994 vintage. A promising summer was interrupted by September rain, but Pétrus delivered a rich, concentrated wine that Wine Spectator called "a great wine for the vintage." Expect kirsch, dark berries, milk chocolate and iron, with perfumed spice, a lush, sweet and fragrant palate, soft round tannins and good length. Now in its third decade, it is fully mature and drinking at its best, though well-stored bottles will hold for years.
