Rudd Estate sits on the Oakville Cross Road in the heart of Napa Valley's Oakville appellation, and its Oakville Estate red is the property's flagship Bordeaux-style blend built on Cabernet Sauvignon. Leslie Rudd acquired the estate in the 1990s and focused it on meticulously farmed estate fruit and polished, age-worthy wines. The warm, generous 2002 vintage suited the site well; Wine Spectator noted a concentrated core of ripe currant and blackberry with earthy, herbal and anise accents, all framed by firm tannins. More than twenty years on, those tannins have softened and cedar and tobacco nuances have emerged. Drink now through the early 2030s.
