Drawn mainly from three blocks of the historic Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard in St. Helena, each fermented separately, this 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon spent 21 months in 70% new French oak. Decanter awarded it 98 points, exclaiming "Now, this is a wine," and praised its grip, mineral depth and refined aromatics. Jeb Dunnuck found dark currant, blueberry, violets, iron and espresso, while Wine Advocate noted mint, red and black cherries and dusty earth framed by silky tannins and crisp acidity, the fresh, elegant hallmark of the 2021 vintage. Vice Versa was founded in 2003 by Patrice Breton, who trained alongside Paul Hobbs. Approachable with decanting, it should age well for two decades.
