Few vineyards in California carry the reputation of To Kalon in Oakville, and Vice Versa's bottling is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Andy Beckstoffer's portion of that legendary site. Founder Patrice Breton launched Vice Versa in 2003 after working alongside Paul Hobbs, and To Kalon sits at the top of his single-vineyard lineup. The warm 2022 season, punctuated by a September heat wave, gave ripe, concentrated wines. One critic described red and black fruits, smoked tobacco, incense, spicy herbs and new leather in a full-bodied, beautifully balanced wine with a supple, layered texture and sweet tannins. Approachable young, it should drink well over the next 15 to 20 years.
