Williams Selyem began in 1981 as a garage project of Burt Williams and Ed Selyem and grew into one of the Russian River Valley's most sought-after producers. Its Lewis MacGregor Estate Vineyard Chardonnay is a small-production, estate-grown bottling, with only about 328 cases made in 2021, a drought year that gave small, concentrated crops across California. James Suckling praised its "wonderful purity of fruit," finding ginger, dried apple, pineapple, quince and lemon curd with an orange-peel undertone. Wine Spectator highlighted a bright, crisp core with lemon zest, lemon verbena and orange blossom on a long, expressive finish. Delicious now, it should continue drinking well through about 2030.
