Williams Selyem began in the early 1980s as a garage project for Burt Williams and Ed Selyem and went on to help define Russian River Valley Pinot Noir, building a cult following through its mailing list. The 2021 appellation bottling blends fruit from vineyards across the valley in a dry, low-yielding year that produced concentrated, well-balanced wines. Jeb Dunnuck called it "a fantastic example of place," noting cola spice, black cherry and iron-rich earth. James Suckling found dried strawberry, orange peel and spiced red tea on a full, structured palate. Bright acidity keeps the ripe fruit lifted. Drinking well now, it should continue to evolve gracefully through about 2032.
