Williams Selyem started in the early 1980s as a garage operation in the Russian River Valley and grew into one of California's most sought-after Pinot Noir producers. Its Savoy Vineyard bottling comes from Anderson Valley in Mendocino County, where coastal fog and long, cool days build aromatic, savory Pinot Noir. The 2021, from a small but high-quality drought vintage in Northern California, combines Martini, Pommard and Dijon clones. James Suckling found lavender, violets, smoke and black cherry on the nose, with earth, chocolate, redwood and black truffle layered through a full, rich palate. Approachable now with a decant, it should keep improving into the early 2030s.
